During the lockdown there was a significant increase in video productions around the world, both aimed at streaming, to reach wider audiences, and the film market.
Hangartfest, without giving up live performances, has decided to devote more attention to video dance to offer the audience a broader vision on the international scenario of contemporary dance.
And this is how the XVIII edition of the Festival hosts for the first time the section called VIDEO BOX, a pilot action that takes place at the Maddalena Theater thanks to TRAINART, a project of the Consorzio Marche Spettacolo and its partners Kulturanova (Serbia), Haceria Arteak (Spain), Welcome aps (Ireland), Teater Nu (Sweden) and co-financed by Creative Europe.
To better respond to the needs of the artists and the expectations of the public, it was necessary to implement the technical equipment of the Maddalena Theater with professional equipment, such as a high-definition projector and a large motorized PVC screen.
This innovative intervention made it possible to commission three new works from some artists participating in the Festival: RAB EXPRESS is presented by Cantiere Idina Who, a collective made up of 5 young artists from Milan, trained at the Paolo Grassi Civic School and the Brera Academy. They are dancers, actors, choreographers, sculptors and video-makers. The work, which debuts on September 1, 2021, is a mix of live performances and video clips. The second, whose debut is scheduled for 26 September 2021, was commissioned to the Marche choreographer Andrea Baldassarri. The work is inspired by the film TEMPO DI POSA, by Baldassarri himself, produced in the context of Marche Palcoscenico Aperto, a project supported by AMAT. The artist was invited to present a stage transposition of his film, with the participation of some leading dancers on the set. The third work entitled AUTOPSIA, is a video dance work commissioned to the dancer Rossana Abritta, following the INTERFACCIA DIGITALE AWARD awarded to her in 2020. The world premiere screening is scheduled for October 30, 2021 at the Maddalena Theater.
VIDEO BOX includes an important FOCUS ON ISRAEL showing the most significant and recent video productions from Israel, presented at Hangartfest all in national premiere, such as YAG_the movie by Ohad Naharin with Batsheva Dance Co. and other works by Tamar Borer & Tom Klein , Adi Boutrous, Liat Dror, Avi Kaiser & Sergio Antonino, Sahar Damoni (Palestinian artist) and Michael Getman. The Focus is supported by the Cultural Office of the Israeli Embassy in Rome.
VIDEO BOX also presents works by Luca Silvestrini (The Sun Inside, Los Angeles Film Award 2020, national premiere and for the first time screened in public), Anna Albertarelli, Marco Becherini, Davide Calvaresi, Ariella Vidach, Michela Paoloni and Colectivo CIW.
The objective of Hangartfest, together with its partners Proartis and ISIA Urbino, is to increase the offer of the Maddalena Theater and, at the same time, to strengthen public awareness programs, to bring spectators closer to video dance and new multimedia languages.
